Five on Food: Articles from the Wednesday Dining Pages

1) It’s made with WHAT? Washington Post. I think I have a crush on Jason Wilson, the Post’s new Spirits columnist. I love his voice. His columns reflect a Washington food and drinking scene that’s as fresh as those of us who live here know it is. This week subject: Cynar.
Speaking of The Post, the food section is really coming along. Between Erin Hartigan’s Bhel Puri article, the Neighborhood Flavor pieces, the introduction of heavyweights Andrew Dornenburg and Karen Page, and One Lamb, One Ham, I’m so happy with the section’s depth today and over the past few weeks.
2) Some more S’mores, Please. Chicago Tribune. Speaking of Peep S’mores, here’s a cookbook with recipes featuring s’mores for all seasons.
3) Lagunitas Lucky 13. Atlanta Journal Constitution. This Petaluma beer sounds great– grapefruit, pine, caramel– and has a fantastic label.
4) On the plate, a yen for victory. Boston Globe. Japanese Red Sox player Daisuke Matsuzaka means Dice-K mania will bring visiting Japanese to Boston during the season. Here’s a photo piece that shows some Japanese teas, sushi, and rolls inspired by the player.
5) Backyard Pests? Think of Them as Dinner. New York Times. Sparrows, squirrels, and other backyard critters are on Steve Rinella’s menu mix of cuisine that’s high and low– really low.
